Canberrans have come together to mourn the deaths of a mother and her two sons after their bodies were were found in Yerrabi Pond.

The India Australia Association Canberra held the candlelight vigil on Sunday evening, with locals eager to show their support to a grieving community.

Police have confirmed they will investigate the tragic deaths of a mum and her two sons as a murder-suicide.

The bodies of the woman and her son Pradyuth Vivekanandan were found in Yerrabi Pond in Canberra’s Gungahlin region on Saturday morning.

Following a frantic search, the woman’s second son Pranav Vivekanandan, 8, was found dead in the same pond on Sunday.

Police interviewed the father of the two boys earlier this week, however police do not believe he was involved in the incident.

A statement from ACT Policing released on Friday said investigators were treating the investigation as a murder-suicide relating only to the mother and her boys.

“However, because the investigation is complex and has not been completed, the circumstances surrounding the deaths have not been the subject of a detailed report to the coroner,” the statement said.

“As the investigation is not complete, it is not appropriate to release any further information at this time.

“It is the responsibility of the coroner to make findings as to the manner and cause of death.

“Those findings will be produced publicly when the coronial investigation, and if necessary, a hearing, has been completed.”

The statement said more than 30 police officers and more than 50 ACT State Emergency Service personnel were involved in the search over the weekend.

Members of the Indian Australian Association in Canberra will hold a candlelight vigil for the family at Yerrabi Pond District on Sunday evening.

Organisers have asked the mourners to bring their own candles and arrive before 6pm for a 6.30pm start.
