A sentencing date has been set for a man guilty of murdering an Indigenous man in broad daylight the middle of Canberra’s CBD.
Late last month Queanbeyan man Kenan Dowden-Carlisle pleaded guilty to murdering 29-year-old Jordan “Ducky” Powell in Civic in the morning of December 4 2021.
Mr Powell died in an alleyway just off Garema Place following a brief altercation with Dowden-Carlisle.
Members of the public attempted to revive Mr Powell, but he died at the scene.
Following his death loved ones created a makeshift shrine at the scene to honour the slain man.
Dowden-Carlisle was charged with murder the day after the incident.
He had initially pleaded not guilty to the murder charge, and was due to face trial later this year.
Instead, he’ll face the ACT Supreme court for a sentencing hearing on June 20.
