A Canberra man has faced court after police allege they found 18 cannabis plants on his property after arresting him for drink driving.
Dunlop man Nathan Giannasca, 45, was arrested on Saturday after police allegedly responded to a disturbance at his residence.
Police allege they found the driveway of his property littered with broken glass.
Police will allege Mr Giannasca arrived at the property in his car, and refused to do a breath test.
He was arrested, issued a 90 day immediate suspension notice, and taken into custody where he allegedly blew a BAC reading of 0.166.
Police allege during a search of his residence officers found 18 cannabis plants being grown inside and outside using a hydroponic cultivation and temperature control system.
After spending two nights in custody, Mr Giannasca fronted the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday facing charges of level 4 drink driving and cultivating cannabis.
He appeared via audiovisual link from the Alexander Maconochie Centre and did not enter pleas.
When asked by Magistrate Robert Cook if he understood the charges laid against him, Mr Giannasca said “I don't think it was 18 plants”.
Mr Giannasca applied for bail, which was not opposed by prosecutors, and told the magistrate he wanted to “get some help”.
Mr Cook granted Mr Giannasca bail and set April 3 for his next court date.
