The woman charged over the road death of 20-year-old Canberra man Matthew McLuckie will face the ACT Supreme Court despite concerns over her fitness to plead.

Police allege Bruce woman Shakira Adams was driving on the wrong side of the road when she crashed into Mr McLuckie’s car on Hindmarsh Ave, Red Hill at 10:55pm on May 19 last year.

Both Ms Adams and Mr McLuckie were transported to The Canberra Hospital with significant injuries, however Mr McLuckie passed away shortly after the crash.

Ms Adams was charged over the crash in December last year and her case was first heard in the ACT Magistrates Court last month.

Due to her significant injuries she did not appear either in court or via audiovisual link when her case was first heard last month.

Ms Adams appeared at ACT Magistrates court on Tuesday morning via audiovisual link from The Canberra Hospital.

She is facing charges of manslaughter, culpable driving causing death, aggravated dangerous driving, driving unlicensed and driving a motor vehicle without consent.

Her lawyer told the court her matter could be committed to the supreme court but raised concerns about Ms Adams’ fitness to plead.

Magistrate Robert Cook committed Ms Adams to the Supreme Court.

She will appear for a directions hearing next week.
