Man arrested for alleged stabbing during carjacking at Westfield Belconnen

A man has had to be chased down by police after allegedly stabbing a woman during a violent carjacking at a Canberra shopping centre.

A man who allegedly stabbed a woman during a horror carjacking at a Canberra shopping centre will face court today.

Police allege a 26-year-old man attacked a woman with a knife in the multistorey car park of Belconnen Westfield about 11.30am on Sunday.

It’s further alleged the man stabbed the woman in the arm during the aggravated robbery before he fled with a white Mazda 4WD ute.

She was taken to hospital while police tracked down the allegedly stolen car, which was sighted at Braddon shortly after officers were called.

He was arrested about 20 minutes later following an alleged foot chase at Ainslie.

The man was charged with aggravated robbery, intentionally wound a person, knife possession, two counts of failing to stop for police, two counts of dangerous driving and drive while disqualified.

He is expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday.
