The rise and fall of a Sydney real estate agent who went from homelessness to being “successful” in his field has been heard in court after two disturbing attacks on holidays.

Queanbeyan Local Court heard on Thursday how Phoenix Tysonn, 29, had the world at his feet following his “dysfunctional childhood” and became a “pillar of the community” in his role in real estate.

Magistrate Roger Clisdell said regrettably in the 29-year-old’s private life, “he isn’t the same” with Tysonn’s past of domestic violence emerging in court as he was sentenced to nine months jail for his latest attack.

Documents tendered to the court state Tysonn belted a woman in the face with a stick which opened a wound on her nose during a trip to Thredbo on January 14.

Police say the Paddington man then spat in the face of another victim who intervened.

Defence lawyer Tom Seeney spoke in court of Tysonn’s “deprived upbringing” where he travelled back and forth between his parent’s homes.

Mr Seeney said Tysonn left home at 14 and was “in essence, homeless” until he became an adult.

The defence lawyer said his client needed counselling and treatment to understand the severity of his behaviour.

It was heard in court the Paddington man was “successful” as a real estate agent but would lose his employment if he were to be imprisoned.

The court was told the Paddington man initially refused to tell the author of a sentence report the details of his new partner as he did not want her to be aware of his past and showed a “concerning pattern of domestic violence”.

Tysonn conducted a second interview with the report writer however the court heard the 29-year-old’s answers “appeared superficial” and remained “self concerned” on the impact of his career if he received jail.

Mr Clisdell said the Paddington man had three chances before the courts previously and none of it stopped his offending.

The 29-year-old pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm (dv) and common assault (dv) and was given a head sentence of nine months’ jail, with a non-parole period of five months. Convictions were recorded.

The Paddington man launched an appeal against the sentence and was granted bail on Thursday with his matter adjourned to the Queanbeyan District Court in November.
