A suspended Army staff cadet charged with multiple counts of rape will fight the accusations during a trial at the ACT Supreme Court.
Jake Sullivan, 22, from the Brisbane suburb of Ormiston, has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him including four counts of sexual intercourse without consent, an act of indecency without consent, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
All alleged offences relate to one female complainant.
During a court appearance on Tuesday, Mr Sullivan appeared via audio visual link from his Queensland home, and did not speak other than confirming he was present.
His lawyer told Magistrate James Lawton that Mr Sullivan stood by his pleas of not guilty and the matter would proceed to trial.
Mr Lawton committed Mr Sullivan to the ACT Supreme Court for trial and set December 12 as his first appearance.
Court documents revealed Mr Sullivan was living at Duntroon Military Facility in Campbell ACT at the time of the alleged incident.
Charge sheets state Mr Sullivan was arrested on August 26 and has been on bail ever since.
Under bail conditions, he cannot contact, harass or intimidate the complainant, and he cannot enter the Australian Defence Force Academy at Campbell unless he is in the company of military police.
Mr Sullivan also cannot be within 50 metres of the complainant, was ordered to surrender all passports, and cannot apply for a new passport.
During a brief hearing in October, Mr Sullivan had his bail conditions varied because he moved back to Queensland.
A statement from the Department of Defence in October responding to questions about Mr Sullivan confirmed he had been suspended from duty.
“An Army Staff Cadet has appeared in court in Canberra charged with a number of sexual offences,” a Defence spokesman said.
“The Staff Cadet has been suspended from duty. As this matter is before the courts, we are unable to comment further.”
