Gary Taylor pleads guilty to Glenn Walewicz murder

A NSW man has pleaded guilty to the joint-commission murder of Canberra man Glenn Walewicz (pictured) who was shot dead on his doorstep in June 2021.

A north western NSW man has pleaded guilty to the murder of Canberra local Glenn Walewicz.

Gary Taylor, 24, from Baradine, fronted the ACT Magistrates court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to the charge of joint commission murder.

Mr Walewicz, 48, was shot dead outside his Philip residence on the night of June 10, 2021.

Five people including Taylor are before the court in relation to Mr Walewicz’s murder.

An 18 year old – who cannot be named because he was underage at the time of the incident — is charged with murder and a separate charge of violent conduct likely to cause fear. He has pleaded not guilty.

Dunlop man Reatile Ncube, 19, has pleaded not guilty to being an accessory to murder.

Glen Innes man Jayden Williams, 19, is also charged with being an accessory to murder. Mr Williams has not entered any pleas.

Holt woman Nicole Williams, 38, faced court on June 7 charged with being an accessory to murder after the fact and conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary. She has pleaded not guilty.

A 13 year old boy, who was previously charged with joint commission murder, has since had his charges dropped.

It took police almost a year to make arrests in relation to the killing.

In June Detective Inspector Mark Steel described the case as a “real whodunit”.

“This hasn’t been an easy investigation,” Detective Inspector Steel said.

“(The investigation has been) 12 months in duration thus far and it’s certainly a testament to the tenacity and dedication of all members involved – from homicide detectives through to our support areas.”

Taylor will appear again in court next month.
