An 18-year-old man has been charged with murder over the 2021 death of Glenn Walewicz following a year-long police investigation.

Mr Walewicz was shot dead with a single bullet outside his Phillip townhouse on the night of June 10, 2021.

The accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with murder and a separate charge of violent conduct likely to cause fear.

Mr Walewicz’s mother and the accused’s mother and sister were present at court during the brief hearing.

The 18-year-old did not apply for bail and did not enter any pleas.

Defence Lawyer Tich Pasipanodya from Prudential Legal Services asked for a three-week adjournment in order to get full instructions from his client, which was granted by Magistrate Jane Campbell.

He will appear before the ACT Children’s Court again on June 27.

The 18-year-old was arrested on Sunday following the arrest of 19-year-old Reatile Ncube.

Mr Ncube was charged with being an accessory to murder over the same 2021 incident.

He fronted the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday where he was refused bail by Magistrate James Stewart.

Mr Ncube did not enter a plea and will return to court on June 20.

Speaking to members of the media prior to the 18 year old’s court appearance, Detective Inspector Mark Steel described the case as a “real whodunit” and told members of the press it wasn’t clear if the victim knew the men charged in relation to his murder.

“This hasn’t been an easy investigation,” Detective Inspector Steel said.

“(The investigation has been) 12 months in duration thus far and it’s certainly a testament to the tenacity and dedication of all members involved - from homicide detectives through to our support areas.

“The investigation is ongoing and we are expecting further arrests to be made.”

Police have urged anyone with information about Glenn Walewicz’s death to contact Crimestoppers.
