Investigators believe the body found along the Tuggeranong Pkwy at Curtin is that of missing man Shane Watson.

Police began their operation about 10.30am on Friday after a bushwalker made the tragic discovery near the Cotter Rd exit.

An ACT Policing spokesman said police believed the body was missing Bonython man Shane Watson.

Mr Watson was not seen or heard from since the end of March with family members labelling his disappearance as out of character.

The spokesman said formal identification still needed to take place.

Where the 33-year-old’s body was found in Curtin remains a crime scene with investigators to scour the surrounding areas.

At the start of their investigation into his disappearance, detectives said Mr Watson left his home in a worrying state with food left on the table which needed to be refrigerated.

No one had made contact with him for almost a month with his body found more than 15km away from his Bonython home.

The motorway was closed for several hours which caused major delays however has since opened.
