A cross-border operation saw officers raid multiple homes after a tip-off leading to an arrest with 3D printed firearms, a suppressor and drugs allegedly uncovered at a Turner man’s home.

ACT Policing and NSW Police executed search warrants in Turner, ACT and in Braidwood, NSW about 8am on Wednesday in the search of illegal firearms.

Officers allegedly seized a prohibited pistol, five 3D printed firearms, numerous 3D printed parts as well as ammunition and a suppressor.

Police will allege SD cards, electronic equipment and a small amount of drugs suspected to be GHB and meth were also found.

Andrew Allan Kay, 39, was arrested at the scene and charged with five counts of the unauthorised manufacture of firearms, possessing a prohibited firearm and possession of ammunition.

He has not been charged with drug offences at this stage.

Mr Kay faced ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday and did not apply for bail.

He entered pleas of not guilty to all charges and had his matters adjourned to June 15.

The court heard the ammunition allegedly found was a range of hollow point, 9mm and shotgun rounds.

Detective Acting Inspector Sam Norman from ACT Policing said the arrest of this man followed on from the arrest of Campsie man Jason Pakalani Tuiono for similar alleged offences in March 2023.

“These arrests stem from information provided by a member of the public and show how these type of tips can assist police as we tackle wider criminal enterprises,” Inspector Norman said.

“Any piece of information, no matter how big or small, can assist police, and I would encourage members of the community to report anything suspicious to police.”

Inspector Norman thanked NSW Police for their help with their search warrants on Wednesday and said their cross-border co-operation showed criminal groups police will work collaboratively to stop alleged crime.
