Campsie man Jason Pakalani Tuiono arrested in Canberra

A Campsie man is behind bars on remand after a mechanic allegedly found a pistol in his car during a service, leading police to discover ammunition, cash and meth, a court heard.

A 33-year-old accused meth dealer has been remanded into custody after his mechanic allegedly uncovered a handgun in his car during a service.

ACT Policing were called to a Belconnen auto shop on Thursday after a mechanic allegedly found a concealed firearm in a BMW scheduled for a service.

Officers came to the scene and allegedly saw a 3D printed and modified weapon with a plastic grip and metal barrel.

The vehicle and firearm were seized and officers arrested the owner of the vehicle, Jason Pakalani Tuiono of Campsie, a short time later.

When Mr Tuiono was arrested, police allegedly found a .22 calibre hollow point round of ammunition, $2500 cash, two phones and several clip seal bags believed to contain a trafficable amount of meth.

The Campsie man was charged with unauthorised possession of a prohibited firearm, possessing ammunition, and trafficking a controlled substance.

Defence lawyer Peter Woodhouse represented Mr Tuiono in ACT Magistrates Court on Friday and asked magistrate Ian Temby to adjourn his matters for a bail application.

Mr Woodhouse said he would need time to organise an ACT address for Mr Tuiono as he had been visiting family in Canberra when he was arrested.

Mr Tuiono entered pleas of not guilty to all charges and was remanded into custody to appear again in court on March 8.
