Siege at Chopin St Seven Hills, police negotiating with man

POLICE have been negotiating with a man at the centre of a siege at Seven Hills after he allegedly threatened Department of Housing staff and claimed he was armed with a weapon, police have said.

POLICE are dealing with a siege in North Seven Hills.

Officers surrounded the home in Sydney’s west about 10.30am, where a man is believed to be holed up after threatening government employees.

Police were called to Chopin St in Seven Hills after a man allegedly threatened Department of Housing staff and claimed he was armed with a weapon, police told AAP.

When officers arrived, the man allegedly refused to let them in. Negotiators are attempting to speak with the man.

About noon two police officers swept through Ramona Pellicano’s yard at Brahms St, which backs on to Chopin St.

“I was like jeez something is actually going on,” she said.

Mother-of-two Sarah Hewer’s in laws live in the street and her nephew was due to walk home to his grandmother’s house which is near the house when the man is bailed up.

Her children attend Seven Hills North Public School where parents were told to collect their children from classrooms instead of the front gate this afternoon.

Mrs Hewer’s friend living nearby alerted her to be incident.

“My friend started freaking out when the armoured and the tactical police turned up,” she said.

“I was worried about my nephew. I called my nanna-in-law to make sure she was okay because my nephew was going to walk home by himself so I picked him up.

“This stuff doesn’t happen. We’ve been here 15 years.”

Mrs Hewer said Quakers Hill police initially told her it was a training exercise.

The street has been closed and police are warning residents not to enter the area.
