A woman allegedly tied to a fatal hit and run in western Sydney, where a beloved grandfather was left dying on the side of the road, has pleaded not guilty to her involvement.

A woman whose car was allegedly used in a fatal hit and run, where a beloved grandfather was left dying on the side of the road in Sydney’s west, has pleaded not guilty.
Poonam Poonam, 32, was allegedly the registered owner of a purple coupe which struck and killed Nepalese grandfather Domadar Shrestha, 79, while he was walking on Abell Rd at Melonba on June 30.
Emergency services were called to the street at around 11.20pm where they treated the injured grandfather, who died at the scene.
Mr Shrestha, a Nepal national described as a “loving grandfather”, was visiting his daughter’s family and had gone for a walk after dinner when he was allegedly struck by a purple coupe being driven by Gurpreet Singh who then took off.
The alleged driver, 38, was charged with fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death, dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous, negligent driving occasioning death and not give particulars to police. He will return to court on September 3.
It is alleged Ms Poonam failed to give police the particulars of the alleged driver at the time of the crash and did not give police access to digital devices.
She was charged with conceal serious indictable offence, fail to comply with digital evidence access order, owner not disclose identity of passenger/driver.
Her matter was mentioned at the Blacktown Local Court on Monday, August 5, where the court was told she was pleading not guilty.
Her matter was adjourned until September 23, 2024.
