Man dies after car collides with house at Clearfield, Ballina streets at Colebee

A man has died in Sydney’s west after a car crashed into a family home, with a shocked mother describing the moment the fatal tragedy took place on her doorstep.

A man has died in Sydney’s west after a car crashed into a family home, with a shocked mother describing the moment the fatal tragedy took place on her doorstep.

The driver, believed to be aged in his 80s, died at the scene following the collision on Clearfield St, Colebee just after 12pm.

It is understood the man, who was the only person in the car, suffered a cardiac arrest.

A number of people were inside the house at the time, including Aziza Silik, however no one was injured.

Ms Silik said she was folding laundry in her garage when she heard a “horrible sound” come from the front of her house.

“I went to go open the door but then I heard someone say, ‘don’t open the door, get back’,” she said. “My two kids were just inside doing their homework, I asked them what happened, but we didn’t know.”

The mother-of-four said she, alongside her children, were frightened.

“Things like this happen a lot back home in Sudan, but here it is not so usual,” she said.

“We feel okay now, I have sent my children to the library to finish their homework there instead.”

Ms Silik said she was deeply saddened on receiving the tragic news the elderly driver had died.

“I am crying for him,” she said. “I didn’t know him but that doesn’t matter, you don’t have to know someone to be sad, life is short. I am so sorry for his family.”

Police officers from Riverstone Police Area Command have established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
