New data released today has revealed the number of active and recovered COVID-19 cases in the Blacktown area.

The heat maps from NSW Health show there are 15 active cases of the virus across the Blacktown region, with 94 of the area’s 109 patients now recovered.

The tool provides a colour representation of the total cases across postcodes, with darker shades indicating the most cases.

Locally, the 2148 postcode, which includes the suburbs of Blacktown, Marayong, Kings Park, Prospect, Huntingwood and Arndell Park, remains the hardest hit, with 31 cases. However, 26 of these patients have now recovered.

More than 10,100 people have been tested for the virus across Blacktown since the first reported case on March 8.

The figures come just weeks after the Blacktown LGA was identified as a hotspot for the deadly virus due to concerns surrounding unidentified community transmissions.

Testing was ramped up in the region last month, with a drive-through testing clinic opened in Riverstone on April 20.

Despite an initial surge in cases in early April, the outbreak has significantly slowed in the region, with the area recording just three new cases since in the past 10 days.

The number of locally acquired cases sits at 14.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the new data was important for keeping the community informed about recovery rates and testing in the local area.

“This new way of showing NSW Health data will help communities understand the numbers of people being tested, and encourage more people with symptoms to come forward for testing when they see the impact COVID-19 is having on their local area,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“It also provides encouraging data showing how people are bouncing back from the virus.”
