Western Sydney residents with coronavirus symptoms will be able to be tested in the region’s first drive-through clinic from Monday — following a cluster spike occurring in hot spots stretching from Penrith to The Hills over Easter.
A drive-through COVID-19 Respiratory Clinic will be set up in the Blacktown Council car park at the corner of Market and George St, Riverstone from April 20, operated by the Riverstone Family Medical Practice.
A doctor at the practice said phone based assessments will be conducted to assess if a patient requires testing.
“You don’t need a referral to be tested in the drive-through respiratory clinic,” she said.
She said the patients car acts as an isolation room to prevent increased interaction with other patients and staff and “reduce the risk of transmission”.
Testing is run by a pathology provider and turn around for results is between one and three days.
A Blacktown Council spokesman said patients will be asked to enter Market St from Piccadilly St to access the service from 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday.
“This is a valuable initiative, with Blacktown City nominated a priority area for increased COVID19 testing,” the spokesman said.
“The clinic will see patients by appointment only.”
Patients without access to a car can be assessed in isolation rooms set up at the clinic.
Appointments can be made from Friday 17th April for times from 20 April onward.
