A childcare centre has quickly become the epicentre of Blacktown’s coronavirus outbreak, with 25 cases now linked to the facility.
NSW Health has revealed Rose of Sharon Childcare Centre as one of a dozen active clusters across the state, with confirmed COVID-19 cases surging from three to 25 in less than three weeks.
The latest figures from NSW Health as of 8pm on April 3, show there are seven confirmed cases in staff and six in children. There are also 12 secondary cases, including 11 household contacts and one friend, which are all linked to the cluster.
The centre is closed in the interim and NSW Health is investigating.
As of 8pm on Saturday, the total number of confirmed cases in the Blacktown Local Government Area hit 94.
Cases in the area have risen rapidly over the past week, with the Blacktown LGA now having the fifth-most confirmed coronavirus cases across all council areas in NSW.
Blacktown City has 15 locally-acquired cases with an unknown source of infection.
Cases in the region have more than doubled in the past week, surging from 46 on March 28 to almost 100 on April 4.
New figures from NSW Health have revealed the local suburbs with confirmed cases of the deadly virus.
The 2148 postcode, which covers the suburbs of Blacktown, Prospect, Arndell Park, Huntingwood, Marayong and Kings Park has 27 confirmed cases.
Quakers Hill and Acacia Gardens have 14 cases, while the 2761 postcode, covering Plumpton, Glendenning, Dean Park, Oakhurst, Hassall Grove and Colebee, has 11 cases.
The suburbs of Seven Hills, Kings Langley and Lalor Park have eight cases.
Mt Druitt and surrounding areas, including Minchinbury, Hebersham, Emerton, Dharruk, Blackett, Bidwill, Willmot, Whalan, Tregear, Shalvey and Lethbridge Park have seven COVID-19 cases.
Meanwhile, Eastern Creek and Rooty Hill have seven cases across both suburbs.
The 2765 postcode, which draws in Marsden Park, Schofields and Riverstone and other suburbs beyond the Blacktown LGA, also has seven cases.
Doonside, Woodcroft and Bungarribee have six cases, The Ponds has four cases and Glenwood, Stanhope Gardens and Parklea have three cases.
