A teenager remains in a Sunshine Coast hospital following claims of a group fight involving teens on e-scooters.
The 16-year-old was rushed to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital on Wednesday, November 22.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said officers were called to Bellara Dr in Currimundi about 9.30pm following reports of a large gathering of about 10 people.
She said when they arrived, they found a 16-year-old Pelican Waters boy with injuries to his hip and his hand.
Paramedics treated the teenager and he was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.
A hospital spokeswoman said he remained in the hospital in a stable condition as of Friday morning, November 24. .
It is understood the incident happened at Tumbledown Park, near a childcare centre and about a block away from the Talara Primary College.
The police spokeswoman said the non-life threatening injuries “were consistent” with stab wounds but the incident was still under investigation.
It is understood the group was known to each other.
A mother who had lived on the street for more than 15 years said everyone was talking about a stabbing this morning.
“We all heard it,” she said.
“The e-scooters are loud and they were flying up and down the street and beeping horns.
“Last night in particular there was a lot of screaming and yelling. Lots of swearing. Very colourful language.
“Then there were a bunch of sirens right before I went to bed.”
She said it wasn’t uncommon for large groups of up to 30 or more pre-teens, teenagers, and occasionally younger children to be causing a ruckus on the street late at night.
“You’ve got the school, park, and shops here,” she said.
“It’s always been a bit of a problem but ever since those e-scooters have been popular it’s gotten much worse.
“They’re always zipping up and down the street.
“Beeping their horns, swearing, yelling, screaming, and fighting each other.
“Always dropping f-bombs and c-bombs really loudly.”
The mother said it was an ongoing problem and someone was bound to end up hurt.
“They think they’re untouchable,” she said.
“Police and locals can’t do anything.
“It’s the parents who are to blame.
“They didn’t look like full on eshays but definitely of that sort.
“There’s usually a mix of boys and girls too of all ages. Some really young ones among them.”
A police spokeswoman said the gathering was not related to schoolies celebrations and it was not known if those involved were known to each other.
“No one is in custody but multiple people are assisting police with inquiries,” the spokeswoman said.
The police spokeswoman said anyone with information should come forward and an investigation continued.
Nearby residents have also been asked to look at their CCTV for any vision of the incident.
