Rescue crew called in after man crashes down embankment at Prince Henry Heights

It’s been a busy weekend for emergency services with a spate of serious crashes and a motel fire. Here’s the latest.

There’s been little reprieve for emergency services across the Darling Downs this weekend with a spate of serious crashes, a motel fire and snake bites.

Overnight a woman was taken to Toowoomba Hospital in a stable condition after a fire broke out at a motel in Cotswold Hills around 1.30am.

Police and fire investigators will work to determine the cause, with the fire being treated as suspicious.

In the Western Downs a man in his 30s was taken to Dalby Hospital in a stable condition after he was bitten by a snake at private residence in Dalby around 9.47pm.

Another snake bite occurred just hours earlier in the Darling Downs region with a woman in her 70s taken to Toowoomba Hospital after she was bitten on the leg around 6.59pm.

Emergency services were called to multiple crashes within minutes on Toowoomba streets Saturday afternoon.

Fire and rescue crews were first called to reports a vehicle had crashed into a tree on West St, near the intersection of Stenner St about 4.40pm.

A QFD spokeswoman said the crew used hydraulic cutting gear to remove the back door of the vehicle and free a passenger who remained in the back seat.

Three people have been injured after a silver Mazda hit a power pole on West St in Darling Heights on Saturday afternoon.

It is understood paramedics have assessed three patients and are transporting them to Toowoomba Hospital.

A second crash, involving two cars, occurred just minutes later on the intersection of James and West St.

The QFD spokeswoman said one person was still inside the vehicle but wasn’t trapped.

Paramedics have been called to the scene.

A young man has spent the night in hospital after a visit to a lookout in the Toowoomba region ended with his vehicle crashing to the bottom of the embankment.

It’s understood the car went over the edge of the lookout on Prince Henry Dr about 7.50pm Friday.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said two crews were sent to the scene with a vertical rescue team deployed to the bottom of an escarpment where the vehicle was found.

Technical rescue crews were deployed to retrieve a man from his vehicle after it went over the edge of a lookout at Prince Henry Heights on March 21.

It took crews around two hours to perform the rescue with the man safe and being treated by paramedics about 10pm.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the man in his 20s suffered significant arm and facial injuries and was taken to Toowoomba Hospital for further treatment.
