A Port Macquarie man has been ordered to pay almost $4800 in compensation to the Flower Hotels group after committing two separate “bizarre” acts of destruction during a daylong gambling session.

Alan Christopher Wall poured beer onto a machine at the Hastings Hotel in Wauchope on two separate occasions as he sat and gambled from a little before noon through to 5pm on Sunday June 11.

Wall’s lawyer told Port Macquarie Local Court on Thursday that the offending was “quite bizarre” and alcohol and frustration over gambling losses were both a factor.

Wall lives with anxiety and depression and he had separated from his partner and was living in a van with his dog after the incident, the court heard.

The 59-year-old arrived at the hotel on his motorbike about 11.50am and started drinking beer and playing a poker machine, police state in court documents.

A hotel manager noticed the damage to the machine just after 5pm and CCTV captured Wall carrying out the destruction.

Police went to his home on June 15 and charged him with destroying or damaging property valued at greater than $2000 and less than $5000.

Wall plead guilty, was convicted and sentenced to a nine-month community correction order.

The court directed that he be assessed for gambling issues and Wall has to pay $4793 compensation.
