Chinderah tragedy: Body of swimmer believed to be found near Barneys Point Bridge
A wide-scale search in northern NSW has ended in tragedy with the discovery of what police believe to be the body of a swimmer aged in his 20s.

The body believed to be that of a missing swimmer, aged in his 20s, has been found following a wide-scale search in the NSW’s north.
Emergency services were called after reports of a swimmer having difficulty in the water near Barneys Point Bridge at Chinderah, south of Tweed Heads about 1.15pm Thursday.
Police officers from Tweed-Byron Police District and Marine Area Command began a wide-scale search with the help of Surf Life Saving Australia, NSW Ambulance, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, Queensland Marine Area Command and Marine Rescue NSW volunteers.
A man’s body was located in nearby waters about 7pm.
The body has not yet been formally identified, but is believed to be that of the missing swimmer.
A report will be prepared for the information of a coroner.
