Court documents state the 35-year-old was pushed twice by a man known to him outside the Lismore Transit Centre on the corner of Molesworth St and Magellan St at about 3.45pm on November 6.

Walker grabbed the victim’s shirt and punched him in the face twice, documents continue.

“The force of the punch caused the victim to fall onto his stomach face down in the gutter,” police state.

Walker stood over the victim and when he lifted his head the offender threw another two punches at the man’s face.

As the victim unsteadily stood up, Walker punched him in the face twice again causing him to fall back to the ground.

Walker continued to attack the victim and punched him while he was on his knees. The offender pulled the man’s T-shirt over his head only to continue punching him.

While the victim was on his hands and knees, Walker walked away, then circled back to kick the man in the face causing him to fall face first onto the concrete.

Walker then picked up a nearby bottle of beer and strolled off.

Police received several triple-0 calls from witnesses of the attack. Officers found Walker intoxicated and nearby shortly after.

The victim was rushed to Lismore Base Hospital and suffered a deep head gash and injuries to his nose, lip, mouth, foot and knees, police state.

Police state Walker previously had 17 warrants which showed a “reluctance” to attend court or follow parole conditions.

At court, Walker’s lawyer Maddison Green said the assault was “extremely violent” and her client believed they had a disagreement while he was drunk.

Ms Green said Walker was exposed to violence when he was young and he has a criminal history littered with violent offences.

Magistrate Michael Dakin said the assault was “troubling” and the court needed to deter this type of behaviour.

Mr Dakin sentenced Walker to jail for two years with an 18-month non-parole period.
