Residents of a Northern NSW town have kicked up a stink over the placement of two council-issued port-a-loos near someone’s front yard – deeming the pongy problem a “real sh-tuation”.
The frustration comes after Lismore City Council undertook roundabout upgrade works at the Rous Rd and Oliver Ave intersection at Goonellabah after a number of crashes in recent years.
Works include widening the roundabout, installing pedestrian refuges and improving fencing and street lighting.
To make operations smooth for workers, two port-a-loos have been dumped smack bang in between a pathway and a homeowner’s front lawn on Jubilee St – just metres from their doorstep.
One local took to social media to express her outrage over the proximity to the stench.
“I wonder how much anyone on council would enjoy having a couple of toilets shoved next to their front gate for the next three months…at least,” she wrote on Facebook.
Other users responded with a mix of disgust and amusement, with some calling it a “s--t idea”.
“A real sh-tuation indeed,” one user wrote.
“Holy c--p,” another added.
A Lismore City Council spokesman said council had not received any complaints about the toilet’s placement.
“We have reached out to the resident directly affected by the location of the portable toilets and were informed she had no problem with the location,” he said.
“If the location of the toilets is an issue for other residents, we ask that they contact the council directly so that we can work to resolve any issues.”
