A man has been extradited to NSW and charged with murder after the alleged serious assault of a man in Ballina earlier this month.

A police spokesman said officers arrested a 50-year-old man in Cairns on Friday before he was extradited to Tweed Heads police station on Monday where the charge was laid.

A 44-year-old woman has also been charged with accessory after the fact to murder and contravening a domestic violence order after police raided a Ballina home on Monday.

It came after emergency services were called to Holden Lane in Ballina where a man was treated by paramedics for serious head injuries on February 5.

He was taken to Lismore Base Hospital in a critical condition but he died the next day.

The man and woman have been refused bail.

The man is expected to appear in Lismore Local Court on Tuesday and the woman in Byron Bay Local Court.
