A “manipulative” Queensland bikie associate previously jailed for manslaughter has requested changes to his bail conditions in a Northern Rivers court after he allegedly assaulted and stalked his ex.

Jason Allan Sinclair, from Queensland, faced Ballina Local Court late last week. He pleaded not guilty to two counts of common assault and five counts of stalking/intimidation.

The 51-year-old also pleaded not guilty to undertaking an act to pervert the course of justice, destroying/damaging property and breaching an apprehended violence order (AVO).

Sinclair allegedly instructed his ex to “lie” to police to prevent his arrest when he breached an AVO between December 20 and December 21, the documents continue.

The accused then allegedly breached the AVO again on December 23.

Sinclair was arrested and police refused bail due to his connection to a notorious motorcycle gang, documents state.

“The accused has links to OMCG and has a significant criminal history in Queensland,” police state.

“While historically, the accused has served a period of incarceration for manslaughter. He has also been charged in Queensland for assault causing actual bodily harm.”

Police said it was “concerning” he had asked his partner to lie to officers to try and have his matters withdrawn.

“The accused is manipulative and has no regard for the AVO or restrictions placed on him,” police state.

Bail was granted at Parramatta court with the strict orders to not enter the northern New South Wales township of Evans Head or make contact with the alleged victim.

At Ballina Local Court on Thursday, Sinclair lodged a bail variation application, requesting he be allowed into Evans Head to be closer to family.

Sinclair’s lawyer Isabelle Braly said her client resides in Queensland but was searching for a northern NSW home due to his work arrangements in nearby Casino.

Police prosecutor Val Scott opposed the application to protect the victim. She said she was especially concerned with the perverting the course of justice charge.

Magistrate Karen Stafford denied the application and said Sinclair must continue to live in Queensland and comply with bail conditions.

The case has been adjourned to August 18 for a hearing.
