The father of an 18-year-old man charged after the stabbing death of a boy at Casino on June 25 now also faces charges related to the incident.
Kye Douglas Aylward, 47, from Ulmarra, was mentioned at Lismore Local Court on Monday, November 14, charged with accessory after the fact to murder and conceal serious indictable offence after he turned himself in to police on Wednesday, November 9.
Aylward is the father of Rayne William Aylward who is charged with murder of a 17-year-old at Casino.
About 1.20am on June 25, emergency services were called to a home on McDougall Street, Casino, following reports of a stabbing.
On arrival, officers from Richmond Police District located a 17-year-old with stab wounds to his neck. Despite efforts from responding police and NSW Ambulance paramedics, the boy died at the scene
Aylward junior is accused of stabbing the teen in the neck to death.
Police will allege that Aylward senior, between June 25 and June 27, harboured, maintained and assisted his son – knowing he had allegedly committed murder.
Police will also allege that Aylward senior failed without reasonable excuse to bring information to police which might have been of material assistance to an ongoing investigation in to the murder of the 17-year-old boy.
The court heard Aylward senior was transferred to isolation after he was arrested and remanded in custody.
He was refused bail when he was arrested, and was again refused bail on November 9. The court heard on Monday November 14 that he would remain in custody until January 25, his next court date.
He is to appear via video at Lismore Local Court from remand.
A second 18-year-old man has also been charged – with conceal serious indictable offence. He has been granted conditional bail to appear at Lismore Local Court on November 28.
