Delays in case after Lismore man charged with kidnapping, raping woman

A man charged with kidnapping and raping a woman at a property in a Northern Rivers village has had his case delayed after the alleged victim was bitten by an animal.

A Lismore man charged with kidnapping and raping a woman at a property in a nearby village has had his case delayed after the alleged victim was bitten by an animal.

The man aged in his early 50s faced Lismore Local Court on Wednesday.

He cannot legally be named to protect the woman’s identity.

Police allege the man went to a property in the Lismore region on October 21, where he assaulted the woman and destroyed her personal property, court documents state.

It’s alleged the man detained the woman, groped her genitals and breasts and forced her to participate in sex acts.

The prosecution was facing issues moving the case forward and the court heard there were other barriers involving the complainant.

Case conferencing was missed on one occasion because the woman was bitten by an animal.

The man has been charged with inciting other to carry out a sexual act with them without consent, taking/detaining a person with intent to obtain advantage occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of sexually touching a person without consent.

He has also been charged with intentionally and recklessly destroying/damaging property, stalking or intimidating intending to cause fear of physical or mental harm, six counts of common assault and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Magistrate Cathy Crittenden adjourned the case to April 4.
