A North Coast man accused of leaving an 89-year-old critically injured following a violent attack now faces a murder charge after the senior died in hospital.
Alexander Repin, 46, was hit with the additional charge over the man’s death when he faced Lismore Local Court on Wednesday.
Repin has already been charged with ausing grievous bodily harm with intent, recklessly causing grievous bodily harm with intent and being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.
Richmond Police District officers were called to a Keen St, Girrards Hill home in the Lismore area about 12.45pm on September 30.
They found the elderly man suffering multiple fractures, an eye injury and bleeding heavily from his face, including his mouth.
NSW Ambulance paramedics took him to Lismore Base Hospital for treatment.
Repin was arrested and taken to Lismore Police Station.
Detectives launched an investigation under Strike Force Nemesia.
Police revealed on Wednesday that investigators were told on Saturday the elderly man had died in hospital.
