Health authorities say initial investigations suggest they were infectious in the community.

Government launches third phase of Covid-19 vaccine campaign

Two new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the Northern NSW Local Health District.

The health district’s acting chief executive, Lynne Weir, said both cases, recorded in the 24 hours to 8pm on Saturday were located in the Lismore local government area.

“Both cases … are linked to known cases and initial investigations indicate they were infectious in the community,” Ms Weir said.

“Contact tracing is underway to determine venues of concern, and further information will be provided as soon as possible.”

The local health district is yet to release details on any exposure sites arising from two Clarence Valley cases from the previous 24 hours.

But Ms Weir said she encouraged residents to regularly check the NSW Health website for venues of concern.

There has meanwhile been a detection of Covid-19 virus fragments detected in sewage samples taken from the Byron Bay sewage treatment plant on October 21.

“There are currently no known active cases in the Byron area,” Ms Weir said.

The latest two cases brings the total across the health district to 115 since the beginning of NSW’s current Delta outbreak.
