The weekend could be spoiled by more terrible weather as experts predict the Richmond River and Wilsons River may reach minor flood levels on Friday. See what is expected throughout the week.

Lismore plans rebuild after floods

Moderate rainfall throughout the week over the North Coast means minor flood watches have been issued for the Wilsons River and the Richmond River.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) issued a minor flood watch at 11.17am on Wednesday indicating that rainfall will continue.

A coastal trough is bringing showers across the north east coast of New South Wales from Wednesday.

This may cause minor flooding along the Richmond and Wilsons Rivers from Friday.

At this stage the forecasts are not predicting a deluge anywhere close to March levels, a relief for residents who started to rebuild and clean their homes.

River level rises have been observed from recent moderate rainfall in the Northern Rivers. Further showers are likely to result in renewed rises.

The Bureau is continuing to monitor the situation and will issue further catchment specific warnings if and when required.

Catchments are wet following recent rainfall which prompted SES to enact plans to prepare for a wet winter that could bring persistent rain.

The flood watch means that people living or working along rivers and streams must monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to higher ground should flooding develop.

For the latest flood and weather warnings see the BOM’s website.
