Revenue NSW addresses allegations of fines during Lismore floods
The Lismore community was in uproar after news one man was allegedly fined for speeding while trying to evacuate from floods. Now Revenue NSW has responded.

Revenue NSW has confirmed it is conducting an immediate review of speeding fines acquired during the catastrophic Lismore floods following community outrage.
According to 2GB radio, A Lismore business owner contacted Ray Hadley saying he received four speeding infringement notices dated for February 27, the night of the Lismore floods.
The speaker said he was evacuating at the time and alleged Revenue NSW said the fines would still apply, despite the emergency.
The man alleged all the fines were between seven and nine kilometres per hour over the speed limit between 4.36—5.24pm.
But a Revenue NSW spokesman said on Tuesday they had implemented Natural Disaster Protocols on February 28 which were there to provide “a range of options to assist customers who have been impacted by natural disasters”.
“Revenue NSW appreciates the challenges faced by residents affected by recent storms and floods, and has initiated an immediate review of all fines issued during the recent floods,” the spokesman said in a statement.
“Where appropriate, Revenue NSW will proactively reach out to all customers impacted to have their fines cancelled.”
Revenue NSW has encouraged anyone experiencing financial difficulties as a result of the floods to call 1300 138 118 a to discuss their situation.
“There are options available for people who have been impacted by the floods including having their debt written off, extension of payment/lodgement time frames, placing debts on a short term hold and assistance with hardship applications,” the Revenue NSW spokesman stated.
“Additional costs can be waived if a customer was prevented from making payment due to the floods.”
