A Northern Rivers man who allegedly threatened to chop up his mother and slit her throat has fronted Lismore Local Court.
Jake William Saville, 28, found himself standing before Lismore Local Court in police custody after the court issued two warrants for his arrest following allegations that he threatened his mother that he would “slit her throat” and “chop her up”.
Saville has been charged with two counts of contravening a prohibition or restriction in an apprehended domestic violence order, attempting to stalk or intimidate with the intention of causing physical or mental harm and failing to attend Kyogle Local Court, according to police documents.
Saville is yet to enter pleas to the charges.
At Lismore Local Court, prosecutor Emma Hogan said Saville was an “unacceptable risk” to the community as he had a history of non-compliance with court orders, including breaching bail, and had two outstanding warrants on him before he handed himself into police.
Ms Hogan said Saville is alleged to have broken a domestic violence order against his mother, Gail Saville, on July 17 and September 14, in two incidents where he allegedly intimidated and threatened to kill her.
Ms Hogan said Saville’s alleged conduct is “serious” as his mother fears for her life, the court heard.
“Saville told his mother ‘I’m going to get someone to chop you up’ and ‘I’m going to slit your throat’,” Ms Hogan told the court.
Saville’s defence lawyer said his client was experiencing homelessness when the AVO order against him was issued.
The lawyer told the court Saville had battled alcoholism, and had “found god now”.
Magistrate Jeff Linden acknowledged these were “disturbing (alleged) threats”, but granted Saville conditional bail to be of good behaviour.
Saville is next to face face court on October 10.
