A Goonellabah house fire this afternoon was so intense firefighters were forced to tackle the blaze from outside the building, which was destroyed.
Emergency services were called to the weatherboard home on William Blair Ave around at 2.30 to find the building well alight.
It took almost two hours for some 20 firefighters to extinguish the blaze.
Lismore Fire and Rescue station manager Neil King said crews deployed a “defensive strategy” in tackling the fire.
As they pumped water onto the inferno, the roof collapsed.
“No one was at home at the time, all occupants have been accounted for,” Mr King said.
A Fire and Rescue spokesman said asbestos was present, so a hazardous materials unit was dispatched.
Police have taped off the property and will work with fire investigators to determine the cause of the blaze.
