A serial Northern Rivers offender allegedly stole $5k from another man’s home and was busted with a knife in a public place, according to police.

A serial Northern Rivers offender allegedly stole $5000 from another man’s home and was busted with a knife in a public place, according to police.

Ezkiel Copeland, 24, appeared via audio visual link before Magistrate Michael Dakin in Lismore Local Court late last week.

He has been charged with stealing property valued between $5000 and $15,000, having suspected stolen goods in his possession and carrying a knife in a public place.

Documents tendered to court allege that at 11pm on February 5, Copeland was in posession of one pair of safety glasses worth $60, one hammer valued at $6, and one pair of Oak Wood sunglasses valued at $120 – all suspected of being stolen.

Police also allege he had one Bosch laser measurer worth $100, one Milwaukee torch costing $100, and one pair of Apple iPods worth $320, which police also alleged were stolen.

Police will allege that between 8.40pm and 8.45pm on May 8 at Fischer St, Goonellabah, Copeland was carrying a knife in a public place without a reasonable excuse.

On May 23, between 7am and 9pm, police allege Copeland stole $5,600 in cash from a Baillie St North Lismore home.

His lawyer Gemma Campagna told the court her client was suitable for the Balund-a Program, a residential diversionary program for male offenders over 18 years of age.

Mr Dakin adjourned the matter for the Balund-a assessment.

Copeland was bail refused and remains in custody to reappear before Lismore Local Court on June 23.
