The reinstatement of NSW Covid-19 restrictions has led to a devastating effect on some of the Northern Rivers’ most anticipated upcoming events.

But with so many cancellations happening, it can be hard to keep up.

That’s why the Northern Star has compiled a list of cancellations, as they happen. Check them out here:

Casino Truck Show

The popular Casino Truck Show has once again felt the blow of Covid-19 as organisers cancel the event for the second year in a row.

Organisers made the joint announcement on Tuesday afternoon, following the announcement of a number of lockdowns nationwide.

With just five weeks to go until its big return, Truck Show Organising Committee spokesman Darren Goodwin and Beef Week Festival Committee President Frank McKey deemed it not “feasible”.

Skullcandy Oz Grom Open

After “constant consultation” with key stakeholders, Surfing NSW has made the difficult decision to postpone one of the most highly-anticipated junior events in Australia.

The Skullcandy Oz Grom Open was due to be held at Lennox Head from July 6-11.

But organisers have now announced the event will be held in September.

NAIDOC Celebrations

Many NAIDOC celebrations across the Northern Rivers have been cancelled due the evolving situation, including those in Richmond Valley, Tweed Shire, Ballina and Clarence.

In Casino, these include the Casino NAIDOC Week ceremony march and fun day, Water is Life Program opening and Evans Head NAIDOC Fun Day.

In Ballina, this includes the annual celebration walk along River St that was planned for Monday July 5, and the Cultural Day that was planned for Tuesday 6 July at Missingham Park.

Splendour in the city

A pop-up version of the Byron Bay festival has been cancelled.

The event was set for July 10-18 and set to featuring a line-up artists and comedians including Spacey Jane, Tash Sultana, Illy, Violent Soho and more.

Co-CEO of Secret Sounds Jessica Ducrou voiced her disappointment in a statement.

“This is a heartbreaking situation for all of the crew, suppliers and artists that were working hard to deliver this event for Sydney,” she said.

“Splendour in the City was set to provide much needed income for our live music industry which has been devastated since March 2020.

“We want to thank all of the music lovers out there who purchased tickets.

“Your ongoing support is very much appreciated.”

However, Splendour XR will go ahead as planned on July 24-25.

Moshtix will begin processing refunds for all Splendour in the City shows from June 29.

Car Boot Markets

The July 4 Lismore Car Boot Market is cancelled due to the current Covid restrictions.

Organisers are awaiting further information before determining the fate of the July 18 markets.

Holiday Program

The Mid-Richmond Neighbourhood Centre has cancelled its entire holiday program from June 29-July 8.

This includes the skate park activities and youth hangouts.

Kingy Comedy

The Kingscliff Beach Bowls Club is cancelling their comedy night, due to be held on June 30.

Holiday activities

A variety of school holiday events at Cherry Street Sports Ballina have been cancelled.

These include Lasertag, Miss Beka and KidzKlub and Miss Beka Karaoke to be held on June 28 and July 1,7 and 8.

Other events including Fitnesskidz, Old MacDonalds Farm and Wildlife Twins are set to continue.

Lismore Jazz Club

Due to the recent restrictions, organisers for the July 4 gig at Lismore City Bowling Club have decided to cancel the event.

Friday Funday in the Winter Holidays!

Lismore Regional Gallery organisers signalled they would cancel the Winter Holiday Program, due Covid Safety regulations, set for July 2.

They have indicated they will be creating some art packs for kids to pick up from the Gallery and will announce when they are available.

Nudge Nudge Wink Wink

Due to be held at The Billinudgel Hotel on July 3, this event has been postponed to Saturday, August 7.

Existing tickets remain valid for the new date and an email update will be sent to all ticket holders in case anyone needs a refund.

Bec King Exhibition

This Quad Lismore event, set for July 6-12, is now postponed.

This exhibition of Local Bundjalung artist Bec King was to coincide with the Koori Mail 30 years celebrations Bundjalung NAIDOC WEEK Blak Market event in the Quad.

Smokey Joe’s Cafe

The Ballina Players have suspended shows for the musical revue over June 27-28.

For those with tickets, a Ballina Players representative will contact you shortly to offer the possibility of news dates to accommodate reduced audience numbers.
