After “constant consultation” with key stakeholders, Surfing NSW has made the difficult decision to postpone one of the most highly-anticipated junior events in Australia.

The Skullcandy Oz Grom Open was due to be held at Lennox Head from July 6-11.

But organisers have now announced the event will be held in September.

“Due to the constantly shifting Covid-19 situation in Australia, the decision has been made to reschedule the 2021 Skullcandy Oz Grom Open, presented by Vissla, until the 10 – 15 September 1-15, 2021 at Lennox Head,” a statement on Surfing NSW’s website explained.

“We will be offering refunds for those who are affected by the current Covid-19 situation, however, it is important to note that you will lose your spot once a refund has been processed.

“If you decide to enter the event again at a later date, you will be at the end of the waitlist.

“The event committee is monitoring the evolving Covid-19 situation and is in constant consultation with event stakeholders, the WSL, Surfing NSW, Skullcandy, Vissla, NSW Health and Ballina Shire Council and will provide all competitors with changes as they come to hand.”

It’s another blow for this popular event, which had to be cancelled last year because of the Covid situation.

The Skullcandy Oz Grom Open is one of the most highly anticipated junior surfing events in Australia.

It attracts national, international and local surfers, and is a huge boost for the Ballina Shire economy.

The event was founded in 2012 by Le-Ba Boardriders, who wanted to establish an “exciting and innovative contest of the highest standards” that had never been seen before in junior surfing.
