An Alstonville man has appeared in Ballina Court after failing a roadside drug test.
Highway Patrol officers pulled over a black Holden Commodore along Wardell Road for a random breath and drug test at about 11.30am on April 23.
Christopher William Stevens failed the drug test and was arrested and taken to Ballina Police Station for further oral fluid testing.
The NSW Forensic and Analytical Science Service confirmed Stevens had a positive result to methylamphetamine and cocaine in his blood.
Stevens was dressed in jeans, a black shirt and looked up at the ceiling when he appeared at Ballina Local Court on October 13, as his defence explained his dire family and financial circumstances.
Magistrate Karen Stafford told the court the charge which saw Stevens before her was the result irresponsible behaviour.
“You clearly do not take your family responsibilities seriously, this is your second offence,” Ms Stafford said.
Stevens denied taking drugs when officers questioned him, stating: “I didn’t, mate”.
But the 32-year-old pleaded guilty to drive vehicle, illicit drug present in blood etc - second offence.
He was convicted and given a six-month licence disqualification without further penalty.
