A teenage boy is dead after he was brutally stabbed by an unknown person in what police believe is a targeted attack at his parents’ home on Saturday morning.

Officers from the Richmond Police District arrived at the home on McDougall Street, Casino about 1.20am on Saturday, after reports the 17-year-old had been stabbed multiple times.

On Saturday, Superintendent Scott Tanner of Richmond Police District Command said police were actively searching for those involved, as well as any weapons that may have been used.

“Forensic services are conducting an examination of the scene and an operational support group is conducting a perimeter search,” he said.

“Those searches and the examination of the crime scene will continue for the next couple of days.”

The boy’s parents were home at the time of the incident, and Supt Tanner said they had been assisting detectives.

“The parents were home at the time and are quite distressed, losing any child in any circumstance is tragic enough but certainly in the circumstances that have occurred last night our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the young person,” he said.

Homicide Squad detectives are exploring multiple lines of inquiry, but believe it was a targeted attack. They are also exploring whether the stabbing is linked to the murder of Lachlan Andrews- who was stabbed outside a Casino KFC restaurant last month.

“We are encouraging anyone who has information about this matter to contact crimestoppers,” Supt Tanner said.
