An 18-year-old boy has been charged with murder after a 17-year-old boy was allegedly stabbed to death in his country NSW home in what police believe was a targeted attack.

Officers from the Richmond Police District arrived at the home on McDougall Street, Casino about 1.20am on Saturday, after reports the 17-year-old had been stabbed in the neck multiple times.

He could not be saved and died at the scene.

Detectives went to another Casino home on Sunday and arrested 18-year-old Rayne Aylward before charging him with murder.

Aylward was refused bail and will face Lismore Local Court on Monday.

The dead 17-year-old’s parents were home at the time of the alleged murder and helped police during their investigation.

Superintendent Scott Tanner of Richmond Police District Command said his officers were thinking of them.

“The parents were home at the time and are quite distressed, losing any child in any circumstance is tragic enough, but certainly in the circumstances that have occurred … our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the young person,” Supt Tanner said.

Detectives are exploring many lines of inquiry, but they believe it was an allegedly targeted attack.

On Saturday, Superintendent Tanner said police were actively searching for those involved, as well as any weapons that may have been used.

“Forensic services are conducting an examination of the scene and an operational support group is conducting a perimeter search,” he said.

“Those searches and the examination of the crime scene will continue for the next couple of days.”

It comes after the alleged stabbing murder of 17-year-old Lachlan Andrew in an unrelated incident outside a Casino KFC last month. Lachlan had been working as a labourer on flood-affected properties along NSW’s north coast.
