Former Lismore mayor Jeff Champion’s quarry companies in liquidation

Quarry businesses linked to former Lismore City Council leader Jeff Champion have fallen into liquidation.

Quarry businesses linked to former Lismore mayor Jeff Champion are in liquidation.

Based at Tucki Tucki, Champions Quarry 2 Pty Ltd is jointly directed by Mr Champion and Robert Richards, from Tweed Heads.

Mr Champion is the sole director and secretary of another company, Champions Quarry Pty Ltd.

Liquidators have been appointed for both companies.

In relation to Champions Quarry 2 Pty Ltd, Bill Cotter from Robson Cotter Insolvency Group was initially appointed as provisional liquidators in what essentially arose from a shareholder dispute back in 2019.

The firm was later appointed as a regular liquidator by the court.

Mr Cotter said the matter was “still ongoing”.

In a more recent matter, Glenn O’Kearney from GT Advisory & Consulting was appointed liquidator of Champions Quarry Pty Ltd on October 1 this year.

This resulted from a winding up order from the courts.

“We reported two creditors last week on this matter,” Mr O’Kearney said.

Mystery surrounded the suspension of operations at Champions Quarry in 2019 and Mr Champion has been troubled by other business problems which began long before the pandemic.

They included a protracted court dispute over cattle ownership and property repossession associated with Reavill Farm Pty Ltd, another business Mr Champion previously directed.

Reavill Farm had an external administrator appointed in March of this year, according to Australian Securities and Investments Commission documents.

Efforts to reach Mr Champion for comment through business contacts and a law firm involved in one of the liquidation matters have been unsuccessful.
