A road trip with a mate to collect a vehicle in Lismore went wrong for a South Grafton man who was disqualified from driving.
A third party had been organised to meet the pair in Lismore and drive the second vehicle back to South Grafton.
When the second driver failed to show Lachlan Andrew Street, 20, decided to drive the vehicle back home.
During that trip he was pulled over for a random breath test at Woodburn and busted for driving while disqualified.
Magistrate Kathy Crittenden pointed out Street was right at the end of his disqualification period when the incident occurred on December 9 2021.
Street’s solicitor John Kelly told the Grafton Court if Street had his time again he would make a different decision.
Kelly described Street as a young man reliant on his license for several reasons.
He lives with his grandmother who doesn’t drive and assists her in attending appointments.
A document was submitted from Street’s grandmother showing he effectively cares for her.
He also has two jobs: at Bunnings and as a delivery driver.
His employers provided character references.
“You are doing the best in difficult circumstances to get to work,” Ms Crittenden told Street.
She highlighted Street had no other offences on his record prior to his disqualification.
Ms Crittenden imposed a further disqualification for three months and a fine of $300.
“Do not drive or you will start a cycle you cannot stop,” she warned him.
