A drunken rage resulted in arrest and conviction for a young man who threatened and intimidated police at South Grafton.

The magistrate described the situation as “very volatile”.

“If you don’t get the fuck outta here I’m going to kill you”, Brandon Bruce Ross, 22 shouted to police while raising a beer bottle in his hand.

Magistrate Kathy Crittenden spoke directly to Ross about the fear the police had on February 6 and what they face every time they go out.

“They are called out and they never know what incidents they are going to face and they risk their lives,” she said.

Magistrate Crittenden described Ross’s actions as disgraceful.

“Things can go in an instant in a direction you never contemplated,” Ms Crittenden warned.

“You have your whole life ahead of you and it’s time to think about which direction you want to go,” she said.

Ms Crittenden highlighted that Brandon Bruce Ross, 22 was on bail at the time with conditions forbidding him to drink alcohol.

Solicitor Jason Hatch told the court Ross, 22 expressed remorse and pleaded guilty at the time of the incident. He had already taken steps to receive counselling and had organised carpentry work. He added that Ross had strong family support with his mother travelling from Sydney to be with him in court.

In her sentencing Ms Crittenden said Ross was fortunate to have the support of family but he had to “get to the bottom of what caused it, particularly the alcohol”.

Ross was placed on a lengthy Community Corrections Order of 18 months and given 100 hours of Community Service Work.
