Aussie road rules you’ve probably never heard of

The brazenness of a young man’s traffic offences has shocked the magistrate at Grafton Court.

Benjamin Jack Lambert, 21, faced court this week on charges including driving without P plates.

“It’s a bit alarming you driving without a seatbelt, uninsured and without your P plates, ” Magistrate Kathy Crittenden said.

Lambert’s solicitor Joe Fahey said his client would get a certificate from the Traffic Offenders program.

He added that Lambert was employed and needed his licence. Ms Crittenden agreed that Lambert’s licence is critical to his work but continued to a conviction.

“You are a young man who is highly regarded and engaged in a very positive path,” Ms Crittenden said.

“Your licence is not a right it’s a responsibility and a serious one,” she told him.

The young man pleaded guilty to four offences including driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle and driving a motor vehicle with tax not paid. He wasn’t charged for not wearing a seat belt.

He was ordered to pay a fine of $150 for using an uninsured motor vehicle and while convicted on the three other matters, he had no penalties imposed.

The offences occurred on November 12, 2021 and he was later arrested on February 1, 2022.
