Man dead, woman in hospital after car crash on Armidale Rd at Coutts Crossing, near Grafton, on Tuesday afternoon

Police have confirmed a man has died and a woman has been injured in a car crash near Grafton.

Police have confirmed a man has died and a woman has been injured in a high-speed car crash near Grafton on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the site of the crash about 20 kilometres south of Grafton, on Armidale Rd at Coutts Crossing, about 1:40pm.

Coffs-Clarence Police District officers attended and found a sedan had left the road and crashed into a tree, according to a NSW Police statement.

The male driver died at the scene and had not been formally identified as of 5.45pm.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a female passenger and she was taken to Lismore Base Hospital in a stable condition.

Police have set up a crime scene and launched an investigation into the incident.

Sections of Armidale Rd were closed in the afternoon.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
