A man has been charged with high-range drink driving at almost six times the limit after he was allegedly spotted swerving across a busy motorway on the state’s north coast.

A man has been charged with high-range drink driving at almost six times the limit after he was allegedly spotted swerving across a busy motorway on the state’s north coast.

About 2pm yesterday Sunday, March 24, police officers were driving southbound on the Pacific Hwy, South Islands Way, Arrawarra, when they observed a grey sedan swerving and then accelerating behind them.

A short time later officers stopped the car and conducted a breath test, with the male driver allegedly returning a positive result.

The 36-year-old man was arrested and taken to Woolgoolga Police Station, where he returned a breath analysis reading alleged to be 0.297 — over five times the legal limit.

He was arrested and charged with drive with high-range drink driving.

He has been refused bail and is due to appear before Coffs Harbour Local Court on Monday, March 25.

His licence has been suspended.
