Changing your diet could alleviate depression: study

They must be on the sauce — climate activists have raised the steaks in the battle to kerb climate change by chopping down the size of meat serves to just a 14g mouthful per person per day.

A rabble of British academics have submitted the barbie-killing plans to the UN as part of a bid to reduce global warming by dismantling the world’s beef industry.

The meat limit is so minuscule that if a Group of Twenty diners split a lone 300g porterhouse they’d all breach the guidelines by one gram.

The report’s chief author Tamara Lucas wants people to drastically cut back on eating red meat immediately and has even called for global veganism by 2050.

“Strong evidence indicates that food production is among the largest drivers of global environmental change by contributing to climate change,” the scientist wrote in today’s edition of UK medical journal The Lancet.

“Healthy diets have an appropriate caloric intake and consist of a diversity of plant-based foods, low amounts of animal source food.

“Transformation to healthy diets by 2050 will require substantial dietary shifts, including a greater than 50 per cent reduction in global consumption of unhealthy foods, such as red meat and sugar, and a greater than 100 per cent increase in, consumption of healthy foods, such as nuts, fruits.”

The report then lays out what it describes as the ideal “healthy” diet which limits red meat consumption to 14g a day.

It also suggested that Australia was obligated to take part in the “food transformation” because the nation was a signatory of the Paris Agreement.

Port Macquarie electrician Bruce Smith scoffed at suggestions he should cook tofu snags this Australia Day.

“I would never ditch the barbecue in the name of climate change and when I tried living with no red meat in India I actually got so sick and weak,” he said.

Without a good steak I find myself struggling for energy in the building industry and all the guys who have tried out those crazy kale diets always end up coming back to meat … I genuinely don’t think I could do it on 14 grams a day.”

Ironically, another group of British academics published a report this week warning vegans chucked a sickie 2.6 times a flu season compared to the national average of 0.7.

Australian Meat Industry Council chief executive Patrick Hutchinson said the beef industry was responsible for 100,000 jobs alone.

“These are the real rural and regional workers and the butcher is almost the part of the fabric of these communities,” he said.

“Red meat naturally is rich in protein iron and zinc and is a natural product and the Australian dietary guidelines are 130 grams every second day.

“Everyone trying to attack meat should look at our sustainability framework and our healthy meal suggestions and before listening to what these vegans are saying.”
