A $2.5 million addition to the Lennox Head “Epiq Marketplace” has been proposed, with new shops and a cafe on the cards.

Located within the “Epiq Estate”, the project would see a new “retail centre” made up of eight shops, a cafe with outdoor dining and commercial offices over two levels.

The proposal would also see a kiosk return out the front of the Woolworths entrance.

Located in the Epiq precinct of Lennox Head the site is currently vacant next to the existing marketplace.

The project, also touted as a “neighbourhood centre”, would operate Monday to Sunday 6am to 10pm.

The site is part of what is referred to colloquially as “Epiq Lennox” within the lucrative Epiq Estate in Lennox Head where blocks of land are snapped up at speed – sometimes for millions when land is released

The development was known as the Pacific Pines Estate when it was approved in 2008 before it was later rebranded to Epiq, with the neighbourhood centre flagged as early as then.

Town Planner Damian Chapelle said the Department of Planning and Environment and Ballina Shire Council had identified the need for a neighbourhood commercial centre as part of the master planning of Epiq Lennox and the proposed two hectare site was “earmarked” for that purpose.

“The proposed development seeks to provide additional retail and commercial offerings to the residents of Epiq Estate and the broader Lennox Head community,” he said.

“The proposal will provide further stimulus for employment opportunities through the construction and operational phase of the development,” Mr Chapelle said.

The site is surrounded by housing blocks released by developers Clarence Property, with more land releases in the planned community expected in the future.
