“It’s the second time this year the river has flown, I’m pretty lucky to witness it twice in a year,” he said.
“I live and work in Hermannsburg, I went down to the Finke River after work. I saw the water coming down from the historic precinct, so I went down with my sister and it was underneath the bridge just before Palm Valley.”
Alice Springs has seen 276.6mm fall at the Alice Springs Airport – more than the annual average of 213.4mm.
“The locals were saying the last time it flowed properly was 2016, it’s not what Hermannsburg get it’s what all the ranges get,” Mr Ortyan said.
“If it hammers down there it’ll come down this way through the river.
“We’ve received 62mm of rain in Hermannsberg, it would have got hammered in the ranges if we got 62mm here.”
