ALICE Springs father, husband and cyclist Steve Yates will be farewelled by friends and family today, after he died when he was hit by a car while cycling in a club event earlier this month in an incident which has rocked the whole community.
Mr Yates, aged 57 and originally from Perth, is survived by his two daughters in their early teens, Lydia and Francis, and his wife Katrina.
He worked in the IT industry in Alice Springs after moving to the Territory around three years ago.
The funeral for will be held at the Garden Chapel, Alice Springs Cemetery today with a wake to follow.
The cyclist was hit on the morning of March 6 on Darken Drive, Simpson Gap by a Ford Falcon sedan.

Michael Birch, 30, was taken into custody and subsequently fronted Local Court charged with dangerous driving causing death, supplying a dangerous drug, possessing a trafficable quantity of a dangerous drug and driving while under the influence of drugs.
Birch was remanded in custody and will appear via video-link before court on April 29 for a preliminary examination mention.
